Turning Compassion Into Action

With your help, SMA Missions is ready to address the growing health crisis in Mexico. Childhood diseases driven by obesity, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are rising at alarming rates—especially in the rural “Campo” of Central Mexico.

Through early diagnosis, education, treatment and improved nutrition, we strive to prevent these conditions before they take hold. Through our outreach and nutritional counseling we hope to fundamentally change nutrition in the Campo (countryside).

Our mission is clear, to save lives, empower families, and build a healthier future through early diagnosis, education, treatment, and improved nutrition.

With your support, what we plan to do:

• Mobile Clinics
  We plan to offer vital testing, diagnosis, and treatment for obesity, diabetes, and early-stage CKD to children of the San Miguel de Allende surrounding area then expanding to other under-served areas of the Bajío. 
• Dialysis Access
  For children already suffering from kidney disease, we aim to fund hemodialysis sessions for children at Clinics within the area. 
  
  
• Nutritional Counseling & Education
  Through community workshops and outreach programs in rural areas, we plan to break the cycle of poor nutrition and prevent disease before it starts. Access to basic and safe nutrition is a fundamental human right—no child should ever face a night without enough to eat.

 

• Fighting Malnutrition
  In partnership with NuSkin, we are set-up to distributeVitaMeal, a scientifically formulated nutritional supplement created by NuSkin’s team of experts. Each serving provides essential vitamins and minerals that are often missing from emergency food supplies. To date, over 800 million nutritious meals have been shared worldwide. VitaMeal plays a role in reversing the devastating effects of obesity, diabetes, and CKD by delivering the nutrients children need for healthy development.

• Nearly 1 in 9 people face daily nutritional insecurity
• Triple burden of malnutrition: persistent stunting (chronic undernutrition); anemia; micronutrient deficiencies; and rising rates obesity even in young children.
